15 Helpful Tips to Get Fit at Home
1. Start with a Realistic Routine
I know firsthand what happens when you start out too strong and set unrealistic goals for yourself. Set small, achievable goals and build your workout habit gradually. Consistency beats intensity in the beginning!

2. Create a Dedicated Workout Space
Even a small corner with a mat and some dumbbells can help you mentally shift into “workout mode.” Ideally, you’ll want to dedicate a small area of your home to regular workouts. If you do this, it’s easier to get your workout done because you don’t have to set up again every day.
3. Schedule Your Workouts
Treat your workouts like appointments, and keep them! Block off time in your calendar and show up for yourself. Whether that means you have to get up earlier or stay up later, you simply HAVE to make time!

4. Try Bodyweight Exercises
No equipment? No problem. Squats, push-ups, lunges, and planks are super effective and beginner-friendly. It can take some time, but once you learn a few different bodyweight exercises, you’ll learn that you can still get results even if you keep it simple.
5. Invest in a Few Basics
A set of resistance bands, light dumbbells, or a stability ball can go a long way at home. I highly recommend having some sort of pad or yoga mat, some weights, and a way to do cardio if you can.

6. Follow Online Workouts
There are tons of free workouts on YouTube or fitness apps. Find an instructor you vibe with and follow along, or try something new every day to switch it up!
7. Keep It Short and Sweet
Even 10–20 minute workouts count! Quick sessions can still build strength, endurance, and energy. They can also help you with mood stabilization, productivity, circulation, and more.
8. Include Strength Training
Building lean muscle helps boost your metabolism and gives your body shape while making you strong, so don’t skip the weights! As a personal trainer, I have a TON to say about strength training, but just know that it’s extremely important!

9. Mix It Up
Keep things fresh with a mix of strength, cardio, yoga, and mobility workouts to avoid boredom and burnout. If you’re starting to feel bored with your current workout program, check out these fun ways to switch it up.

Fitness isn’t just about exercise! Fueling your body properly makes a big difference in your results and energy, and it also makes it way easier to lose weight. If you’re not sure where to start, check out these clean eating tips for beginners or my class, Her Nutrition Revolution!
11. Track Your Progress
Use a journal or fitness app to log workouts, track reps, and celebrate wins. Progress is super motivating! Some days you simply won’t have the motivation you need to get up and moving, but being able to look back at your progress will help.

12. Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Good
Even at home, wearing workout clothes you love can boost confidence and motivation. Wear clothes you love, and enjoy shopping for new workout gear. If it motivates you or helps you, there’s no shame in it!
13. Don’t Wait to Feel “Motivated”
Discipline gets you going when motivation fades. Show up anyway, and the motivation will often follow. I know this is easier said than done, but that’s why building habits is more important than ever!
14. Include Your Kids (If You Have Them)
Turn exercise into a fun family activity! They’ll love moving with you and you’ll still get your workout in. Plus, you’ll be modeling healthy behavior and habits that they can take with them to adulthood.
