The Best Small Workout Bench For Home

Wondering which workout bench is the best small workout bench for home exercise? In this post, we discuss the details and options for the best home workout bench.

workout bench for home

Hi there! I’m Chantal.

I’m a mom of two, a certified personal trainer + nutrition coach, and the owner of this site. I’m glad you’re here!

In today’s fast-paced (and post-COVID) world, where time and convenience are paramount, having a small workout bench at home can be a game-changer.

I believe that buying yourself a little bit of home gym equipment is an investment that will really pay off.

This is especially true if you’re a homemaker (like me) who just can’t really go to the gym due to cost, childcare, or any other factors.

Building a home gym will remove your need to fit your workout into time constraints, is extremely flexible, and really doesn’t have to be that expensive.

It also makes it so that you can still exercise if you have a sick child, and it means that you can wear whatever you want without feeling awkward.

(No shaving the armpits if you don’t want to either! Haha.)

Having a home gym is truly great if you want to remove any barriers (or excuses) that are keeping you from exercising.

I’m a personal trainer, so I’ve been able to justify the accumulation of several home workout pieces over the years, but you don’t have to go crazy with it.

While I don’t necessarily believe that you need a lot of equipment to get started working out at home, I do think that it’s nice to have a handful of items to keep things fresh and fun.

That being said, I want to talk about having a small workout bench for home workouts.

Whether you’re a fitness enthusiast, a beginner looking to kickstart your fitness journey, or someone simply wanting to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a compact workout bench provides a versatile and efficient solution.

In this post, we’ll explore the top contenders for the title of the best small workout bench for home exercise, considering factors such as design, functionality, durability, and affordability.

But first, let’s go over some of the other pieces of home gym equipment that will complement your workout bench.

Here are a few items that will improve the versatility of your bench and help to spice up your workouts:

  • Dumbbells
  • Barbells
  • Resistance bands or tubes
  • Medicine balls
  • A mat to protect the floor
  • Weight plates
  • A Swiss ball
  • Anything else you want!

Now that we’re done there, let’s quickly talk about all of the different kinds of exercises you can do with a workout bench!

Exercises You Can Do With A Workout Bench

There are a TON of different things you can do with a workout bench, and this list is just full of examples of things to try.

Remember that some of these depend on your workout bench’s features and adjustability.

Here is a list of exercises that can be performed using a workout bench:

The Best Small Workout Bench For Home (Top Picks)

Best Affordable Small Workout Bench For Home: Flybird Foldable Flat Bench

This is the exact bench that I have in my home gym. This Flybird workout bench is easy to assemble, super highly-rated, and as of this post, runs for $120.

I personally bought this bench because I had a big space issue, and I needed to be able to fold my bench flat and store it under a bed. It works perfectly for people with limited space, and it’s so far held up really well for me.

I’ve had it for about three years now and there’s not a single tear or rip anywhere on it.

The only downside is that it’s not adjustable to different inclines. However, I believe that there’s still a lot of versatility with this bench, so if you’re looking for space-saving and affordable, the Flybird Foldable Flat Bench is perfect.

Best Folding Workout Bench For Home: Lusper Adjustable Weight Bench

Here is another affordable home workout bench that is perfect for small spaces. The Lusper Adjustable Weight Bench actually declines as well as adjusting in upright positions, so that makes it possible to add quite a bit of variety to your workouts.

It also folds flat and has super great reviews for the price. The only downside to this option is that it’s made for smaller workout spaces, so if you’re super tall or heavy, it may not be the best choice. The seat pad and back may be a bit small.

Even though the weight capacity is 660 pounds, my experience with these lightweight benches is that they tip easily if you’re not careful. They can also feel small and unstable for larger people. Just keep that in mind!

Best Heavy Duty Workout Bench For Home: XMark Fitness Adjustable FID Weight Bench

The XMark Fitness Adjustable FID Weight Bench is a great option that doesn’t compromise on quality. It’s more like the type of bench you’d see at a big-box gym because it’s a bit bigger and heavier.

This bench boasts a heavy-duty steel frame, providing stability and support during intense workouts. With its adjustable backrest and seat, you can customize the bench to your desired angle, targeting various muscle groups.

This bench also features a leg hold-down bar for additional stability during decline exercises. When not in use, the foldable design allows for convenient storage, making it an ideal choice for small spaces.

While it’s just a tad pricier (still under $300), it has a weight capacity of 1,500 pounds.

Best Portable Home Workout Bench: PowerBlock Travel Bench

If portability is your primary concern, the PowerBlock Travel Bench is a standout option. Designed for on-the-go fitness enthusiasts, this bench can be easily folded and carried in its compact form.

Despite its lightweight design, the PowerBlock Travel Bench doesn’t compromise on stability, thanks to its heavy-duty construction. It offers two height adjustments, allowing you to personalize your workouts.

Although it may lack some advanced features, its convenience and versatility make it an excellent choice for those who frequently travel or have limited space at home. Coming in at under $200, it’s a solid choice!

Best Workout Bench for Serious Exercisers: Ironmaster Super Bench

The Ironmaster Super Bench is a premium option that delivers unparalleled versatility and durability. Its heavy-duty construction and weight capacity make it suitable for heavy lifting, while its adjustable backrest offers multiple incline positions, providing a range of workout options.

The bench also features a unique “Quick-Lock” system, allowing for effortless adjustments and ensuring stability during exercises.

While it may be slightly larger than some other options, the Ironmaster Super Bench’s versatility and robust build make it an excellent long-term investment.

That’s it! Those are the best weight benches for strength training at home. I hope this helped you get some ideas as you build your own home gym!
