Hello there! I’m Chantal. I’m a mom, a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach, and the writer behind this blog. It’s nice to “meet” you. 🙂

I don’t know about you, but the struggle is real when it comes to taking care of myself during the busy holiday season. (That’s just the nature of being a mom, right?)

Truth be told, I know just how hard it can be to make it through the season without getting sick, gaining weight, and/or totally losing my mind. The busyness and stress of it all can take its toll, and I know I’m not the only one who feels that.

13 Holiday Self-Care Ideas For A Healthy Season

1. Create a Morning Ritual

It’s really easy for your typical routines and schedules to fly out the window during the holidays. While you may need to relinquish some control in this area to accommodate holiday festivities, consider creating a morning ritual that you can stick to.

It doesn’t have to be long or complicated. Start the day with journaling, meditation, yoga, or some other simple habits consistently. This will help you feel in control and help set the tone for your day.

If you’re not sure what to do for your morning ritual, here are some healthy morning habit ideas for women.

2. Set Boundaries Around Your Time

This is one of those holiday self-care ideas that’s a little tricky to navigate, but it can really pay off. During the holidays, there will be an endless amount of activities you can go to – but that doesn’t mean you should.

To avoid stress and keep your head above water, learn how to say no to anything that feels like too much. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that your “extra” commitments are limited to 2x per week. If someone invites you to something additional, share your rule with them!

3. Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is an underrated self-care strategy that’s actually really important. This is especially true when the holidays can be full of indulgences and colder weather.

Make it your priority to stay hydrated to help your body fight off sickness, flush out excess toxins, and maintain optimal cellular health. If you don’t like water, check out these creative ways to improve your daily hydration.

4. Move Your Body Daily

During the holiday season, sometimes the urge to curl up into a ball for hibernation is real. (Trust me, I get it!) However, it’s important to keep moving to stay healthy and keep stress in control.

You don’t have to stick to a rigorous routine to benefit from exercise, and I promise you it will help with the stress and craziness of the season. Studies show that even a 10-15 minute walk lowers cortisol levels and can positively impact your mood. So – aim to move a little bit each day!

5. Plan Healthy Meals

Nutrition is the ultimate form of self-care, but it’s incredibly easy to lose your way with nutrition during the holiday season. (That goes for just about everyone.) I don’t encourage a super-restrictive diet ever, and I am all for holiday treats, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to eat healthy meals when you can.

The best way to ensure that you eat healthy meals is to plan them out in advance. Lucky for you, I have a ton of resources on this topic. Get started with how to start eating healthy on a budget, high-protein meal prep recipes, and healthy sheet pan dinner ideas for busy weeknights.

6. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude shifts your mindset and reduces stress, so why not include it in our list of holiday self-care ideas?

This time of year it can be easy to think about all of the “bad” things that happened, and it’s also easy to get so swept up in the busyness of it all. But I would encourage you to slow down, think about some of the good things in your life, and watch what that does for you.

7. Prioritize Rest

Rest is another one of those underrated self-care tactics that many people struggle to focus on. This one is tricky, but it’s super important.

If you struggle to slow down and you are in constant “hustle” mode, it will eventually catch up to you in the form of sickness, depression, muscle failure, or a mental breakdown. (Maybe that’s just me.)

Learn how to prioritize rest by going to bed earlier, having a bedtime routine, saying no to late-night activities, and putting your screens away sooner each night. If you struggle with sleep, check out these bedtime yoga poses.

8. Embrace Seasonal Hobbies

Being creative and working with your hands are two great ways to release feel-good hormones and relieve stress. That being said, the holiday season is the perfect time to do those fun things that you might not always get to do in the warmer months.

So embrace all of the festive crafts, holiday baking, seasonal movies, winter sports, and other holiday hobbies you can think of.

9. Schedule Time for Yourself

I know that it’s easier said than done, but scheduling time for yourself is essential to stay grounded and recharged. Whether it’s a quiet morning with your favorite book, a solo coffee outing, or a DIY spa night at home, carving out moments just for you can make a big difference.

Treat this time as a non-negotiable appointment, giving yourself permission to pause and prioritize your well-being. (Even if it’s only 10 or 15 minutes!)

10. Connect with Nature

Getting outside during the holiday season isn’t just refreshing—it’s good for your health, too! Exposure to natural sunlight helps your body produce Vitamin D, which supports your immune system and boosts your mood, especially during the shorter winter days. (I live in Western Oregon, so I know a thing or two about what happens to your body when it lacks Vitamin D!)

Even a brief walk or a few minutes sitting in a sunny spot can make a difference. So, grab your coat, soak up that sunlight and fresh air, and let nature give your body and mind the boost they need this season.

11. Manage Holiday Spending

Holiday spending can sneak up on all of us, but keeping it in check is a form of self-care too. Stressing over finances can take the joy out of the season, so try setting a budget and sticking to it.

Thoughtful, low-cost gifts—like homemade treats or heartfelt notes—can be just as meaningful as expensive ones. Plus, keeping it simple can help you focus on what truly matters and keep financial stress at bay.

12. Use Aromatherapy for Relaxation

Aromatherapy is a simple yet powerful way to create a sense of calm during the holiday hustle. Scents like lavender, peppermint, or pine can reduce stress and elevate your mood.

Add a few drops of essential oil to a diffuser, sprinkle them into a warm bath, or mix them with a carrier oil for a relaxing massage. If you’re short on time, even taking a moment to inhale the soothing aroma from your palms can provide instant relaxation. Try it!

13. Reflect and Set Intentions for the New Year

Goal-setting is another great form of self-care. Encourage journaling or taking a quiet moment of reflection, and share tips for setting realistic goals that align with self-care.

Final Thoughts On These Holiday Self-Care Ideas

The holidays can be a whirlwind, but remember, your well-being deserves a spot on the priority list too. Whether it’s taking five minutes for yourself in the morning, saying “no” to an extra event, or dancing around the kitchen to holiday tunes, little acts of self-care can make all the difference.

Until next time,
