Hey there, I’m Chantal – welcome to my site!
Looking for some great fitness hashtags to use on Instagram?
You’re in the right place!
In This Post: Everything About Gym Hashtags for Instagram
When you’re new to social media and operating a business, there can be an overwhelming amount of info. I want to share it all, but I can only do so much in one post. Here’s what’s in this one:
- Why you should be using gym hashtags for Instagram these days
- Getting started with a website for your business
- My big list of the best fitness hashtags to use for your fitness accounts
So let’s get to it!
Let me start by giving you a bit of background to let you know why I’m writing this post. 🙂
First of all, I’m a mom of two and a NASM certified personal trainer. I’m also a certified nutrition coach!
Before I was a personal trainer, I had nothing to do with the fitness industry.
I got started a few years ago by just sharing my fitness journey after having a baby, and it was a great way to stay accountable.
I ended up enjoying the fitness community so much that I became a personal trainer.
But I quickly found out that the best way to do things was online.
And that hasn’t changed in my 5+ years in the industry!
If you’re a fitness professional or someone working towards a career in fitness, I suggest getting on your social media game ASAP.
After the year 2020, hopefully you have learned not to put all of your eggs in one basket when it comes to finances or business.
The pandemic was especially tough on personal trainers and gyms (remember when they shut down?), so if you’re not already moving online, now is the time to do it.
Online personal training and coaching is the future of fitness, and if you’re not with it, you’ll lose out!
Even if you’re not a trainer and you’re simply a fitness influencer, gym owner, or someone interested in building a fitness brand, you NEED to be on social media!
You especially need to be using them if you want to have an online personal training business!

To really get exposure, you’ll want to find fitness related hashtags or weight loss hashtags to use!
But first…let me mention something that’s equally important (in my mind, as a personal trainer and blogger).
Starting a blog is something that I always recommend to help you grow your income as a personal trainer or other fitness professional. I have entire tutorials on the subject:

This is something that will help you share your wisdom with the world, and it will also help you gain trust and authority.
But if you’re not ready to take that leap, I suggest starting by growing your social media following.
Part of that includes using fitness hashtags on Instagram and Twitter. (And now TikTok, too.)
You’re going need the top fitness hashtags for your target audience.
But when I started using social media (and well into my blogging career), I didn’t understand why hashtags were important.
I certainly didn’t know the proper hashtags to yield the best results online.
If that’s the boat that you’re in right now, it’s helpful to understand how things work. Using the right hashtags is important.
Why Fitness hashtags are important
When we’re talking about fitness hashtags, we’re generally referring to their use on Twitter and Instagram.
Honestly, it’s arguable how efficient Twitter is – its popularity is dwindling now. I still use it because it gives me a small increase in page views and income but nothing crazy.
When used properly, hashtags like the fitness hashtags you’ll be using for your brand will help you find the right audience.
Using different fitness hashtags will help the right people find you (and hopefully follow you).
Ultimately, they’ll help you hone in on your niche and target people who actually care about fitness.

Why narrowing down your niche & target market is important:
Targeting people who actually care via social media is a surefire way to send people to your blog. If you’re not blogging yet, you can still work with brands as an influencer.
They’ll pay you to promote something via Instagram or Twitter. But brands don’t want to pay you to promote to random people – they want your audience to be specific.
If your audience is carefully chosen, they’ll prove themselves more invested in a topic and therefore, a specific product. If you’re being paid on commission, this is extremely important.
(It really depends on the type of content you’re delivering and what offerings you have.)
Even if you’re being paid a flat rate, you still want to prove your worth to the brand you’re working with by sending them leads and spreading the word.
In short, if someone followed you based on a fitness hashtag or weight loss hashtag you used, they’ve proven that they’re already interested in health and fitness.
That means they’re more likely to buy from your fitness brand.
If you’re using just the right fitness hashtags, it can help your business by bringing you potential customers in your target audience.
How do I use hashtags? Where can I find gym hashtags and Other Fitness Hashtags?
Fitness or weight loss hashtags can be used in your posts and on your profile so that people can find you. They can also be used to search for people or posts.
When I want to follow a specific group of people, I search by fitness hashtags (or whatever I’m looking for).
We don’t generally use hashtags on Facebook or Pinterest. In fact, it’s rumored that using hashtags on FB and Pinterest will actually “ding” you and reduce your post’s visibility. This is because the algorithms for these platforms just don’t use hashtags.
Instagram is a big-time hashtag platform. TikTok uses hashtags as well.
Many social media experts suggest using about 10 related hashtags per post.
That means that when I post a fitness-related image or other fitness content on Insta, I use 10 or more fitness hashtags every time.
I try to switch it up to reach new people, but I always use plenty of hashtags so that in case someone out there were to be searching for those hashtags, they might find me and follow me.
What Do I Need to Get Started Growing My Brand?
Even if you don’t have a blog set up (Again, I highly recommend doing this so that you can start making money online) you can grow a social media presence.
If your primary goal is to use fitness hashtags to earn money online, here’s what you need to do:
- Open social media accounts that you’ll use for your fitness business. I use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest almost every day for this blog. If you have personal accounts already, you may want to consider converting them to business accounts or simply starting new accounts. (For FB, just start a “Page” for your brand.)
- Start participating and posting using fitness hashtags like the ones you see here. The more you interact with others online, the more followers you’ll gain. Play by the rules and get busy! Social media marketing works, but it takes time. Remember: Hashtags are really only good for Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.
- Get on a consistent posting schedule. Social media experts have figured out that there are certain times of day that are optimal for posting. They’ve also decided that for FB and Instagram, posting more than once per day is a no-no. Just start familiarizing yourself and interacting with each platform. Don’t forget to switch up your fitness hashtags occasionally. Try new ideas regularly.
- Get your blog rollin’. There will be some opportunities to monetize your social media accounts alone, but most of the money-making opportunities you’ll find are going to be blog-related. Even if you run a personal training biz, you’ll need to send people to a website. (You’ll still use your social media accounts to send people to your blog to pay and see packages.) So get on it! This post will help get you set up.
